Mac users running macOS Mojave (10.14) and earlier versions are experiencing widespread issues accessing the Mac App Store. Many users are unable to sign in or download previously purchased apps.
The problems started around January 24, 2025, coinciding with Apple's changes to Mac App Store receipts. You can encounter various error messages, such as
- "pwSafe was purchased using the App Store on another computer. To use pwSafe on this computer, sign in using the Apple ID and password used to purchase it"
- "An unexpected error occurred while signing in"
- "The data couldn't be read because it isn't in the correct format."
Different behaviors have been reported across affected macOS versions:
- Catalina (10.15) and later versions: Function normally.
- Mojave (10.14): Users can browse the store but can't complete new purchases or download previous purchases once their session expires.
- High Sierra (10.13): Missing interface elements and failed sign-in attempts.
- Sierra (10.12): Error messages preventing access.
Mitigation
We have received reports that Apple has fixed the issue, so please try to restart your Mac and after that opening pwSafe. If you are prompted to login to the App Store, that should work now.
In case you are still experiencing errors, some users have reported success performing these steps
- Uninstall pwSafe by removing pwSafe from the Applications folder in Finder
