Many websites ask for a verification code when you sign in. These are the 6-digit codes that change every few seconds.
pwSafe can store these codes together with your password. This means you do not need a separate authenticator app, and your password and verification code are stored securely in your safe.
Turn On Code Setup for pwSafe
- Open the iPhone Settings app.
- Navigate to General > AutoFill & Passwords
- Scroll down to Set Up Codes in and select pwSafe.
After this, your iPhone will use pwSafe to set up verification codes for a website.
Set Up a Code
When a website shows a QR code for a verification code:
- Open the iPhone Camera app.
- Point the camera at the QR code.
- Tap the "Add Verification Code in pwSafe" message that appears.
- Unlock the safe where you want to store the code.
- Choose the entry for that website.
- Confirm that you want to add the code to the entry.
pwSafe stores the verification code in the One-Time Password field of the selected entry. If the entry already has a One-Time Password configured, pwSafe asks before replacing it.
After the code is added, the current 6-digit code is displayed. Use that code on the website to finish setup.
Using Verification Codes
When you login to a website and are prompted to supply a verification code, you have two options:
- AutoFill (preferred)
- Manual
To use AutoFill, make sure you have enabled AutoFill as explained here. Also, verify that the website's entry in pwSafe contains the URL of the website. Configured correctly, Safari automatically offers to supply the current verification code from your safe, just like regular password AutoFill.
If you prefer to supply the verification code manually, that is easy too: just open the pwSafe app, unlock your safe and open the details of the website's entry. Tap the One-Time Password field to copy the current verification code.
