How do I convert an existing v3 safe to v4 or create a new v4 safe?

At the moment the Windows version (Password Safe) is the only version that is capable of performing these operations.

• A v3 safe can be converted to v4 by exporting the current v3 safe to v4 (on the File -> Export menu).
• To create a new v4 safe, first create a safe and then export it as described above.

After completing this step, you can open the v4 safe on your iOS or Mac device as pwSafe is fully compatible with Password Safe.

Experimental

The v4 database format is still considered experimental by Password Safe, which is why we recommended against converting your safe to the v4 format. As the v3 format now also supports attachments, the v4 format has minor improvements only compared to v3.
