What are Iterations?
Your safe password is scrambled and mixed up to construct the encryption key used to securely encrypt all entries in your safe. When you set the "Iterations", you are choosing how many times your password is scrambled and mixed up.
There is no need to change this setting as pwSafe uses secure defaults. For advanced users, pwSafe allows to change this setting.
Why does it matter?
The higher the Iterations, the harder it is for someone to guess your password and access your safe. This helps protect your personal information and keep your safe secure. More iterations mean more security, but it can also take a bit longer to unlock your safe.
What should you choose?
We recommend using the "Calibrate My Device" option. This way, you will automatically set the optimal value for your device.
If you notice a delay unlocking this safe on another device, consider setting a lower value.
How to change the Iterations
- Open the app, check Settings > Advanced to enable the Iterations option
- Unlock your safe
- Open the Settings of your safe using the gear icon at the bottom.
- Find the Iterations option.
- Choose your desired level
- Save your changes.
Not too high!
Be careful with setting Iterations much higher than the recommended value. If you choose the maximum value it could take minutes or longer to unlock your safe depending on the compute speed of your device.
In case you did set Iterations too high, simply be patient while unlocking your safe. After your safe is unlocked, revisit the Iterations option to set a lower value.
